Florence and the Machine Partners with Planned Parenthood on Tour
The band Florence and the Machine has decided to collaborate with Planned Parenthood to offer reproductive health information during their concert tour.
Lead singer Florence Welch emphasized the importance of access to health care, stating, “Planned Parenthood Medical Centers are a lifeline for millions of people, and they are being relentlessly attacked. Having access to trusted health care providers is essential and can mean the difference between life and death. At this moment when our rights are uncertain, I am proud to support family planning and provide a space on my tour to provide people with the care and information they need.”
Planned Parenthood plans to set up tables with representatives at several concerts throughout the band’s “Everybody Scream” tour, which runs through the summer.
These representatives will be available to discuss reproductive health starting with the concert in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.
Karen Spruch, National Director of Arts and Entertainment at Planned Parenthood, remarked on Welch’s advocacy, saying, “Florence Welch has long used her platform to advocate for reproductive freedom and care, including courageously sharing her personal experience with pregnancy loss. Her new album, Everybody Scream, powerfully emphasizes the importance of empowering everyone to make decisions about their own bodies.”
Florence and the Machine launched their “Everybody Scream” tour in Europe on February 6. After a month-long break, the tour resumes with the upcoming show in Minneapolis.
Welch has publicly shared her struggles with pregnancy loss, having experienced a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy last year, which led to some canceled shows. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, “I was as close to life as I was to death. And I felt like I walked through this door and it was just full of women screaming.”
