Florence Welch Teams Up with Planned Parenthood for Tour
Singer Florence Welch has collaborated with Planned Parenthood to raise awareness about the organization during her upcoming tour with Florence and the Machine. This partnership, announced recently, will see various Planned Parenthood affiliates setting up informational tables at tour stops beginning on April 8.
Welch expressed her support, stating, “Planned Parenthood medical centers are a lifeline for millions of people and are under relentless attack. Having access to trusted health care providers is essential and can mean the difference between life and death.” She emphasized the importance of supporting family planning, especially in uncertain times.
The North American leg of the tour kicks off at the Target Center in Minneapolis, coinciding with the release of the band’s album, “Everybody Scream,” which dropped in October and reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Welch previously shared her experience of undergoing emergency surgery in 2023 for an ectopic pregnancy, revealing that she lost a fallopian tube.
Reflecting on her experience, she remarked, “The closest I came to creating life was the closest I came to dying,” describing a moment filled with emotion and connection among women.
Planned Parenthood has partnered with other artists as well, including Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams. In the past, several musicians, including Harry Styles and Cyndi Lauper, have voiced their support for the organization, particularly after policies were enacted that restricted reproductive health care access.
According to Planned Parenthood’s latest report, a record 434,450 abortions were performed in the previous year, highlighting the organization’s significant role in reproductive health.
