Florida 9-year-old died after father’s girlfriend directed rottweiler to attack her: sheriff

A Lake County, Florida mother was arrested this week on suspicion of murdering her boyfriend's 9-year-old daughter, authorities said.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said 34-year-old Tayshael Elise Martin was arrested near his Montverde home just after 6 p.m. Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect.

FOX35 in Orlando reported that emergency responders were called to Martin's home on June 17 after a call found 9-year-old Jamaria Sessions unresponsive.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found the child with multiple scrapes, bruises, burns and what appeared to be bite marks, and sheriff's deputies responded.

A coroner's investigation showed the child's injuries were consistent with physical abuse, according to the press release.

As part of the sheriff's office investigation, detectives obtained video footage from the family's security system.

According to reports, the video shows Jamaliah being “viciously” attacked by her family's 103-pound Rottweiler on the night of June 15. Martin was on the other end of the dog's leash, and he allegedly directed the dog to attack Jamaliah.

Detectives also allege that video shows Martin repeatedly kicking Jamaliah as she lay motionless on the floor.

The video also allegedly shows Martin punching and shaking the girl, before dragging her body across the floor, and authorities say he may have said, “I'm going to kill her.”

Investigators also released interviews, videos and text messages which suggest Jamaliah's punishments included being forced to sit against a wall for long periods of time, running in place with her hands up, being hit with various objects, kicked, punched and pinched. The broadcaster reported.

Martin was processed and booked into the Lake County Jail where he is being held without bail.
