A 9-year-old boy died Tuesday after crawling under a school bus in Florida, authorities said.
The incident happened late Tuesday afternoon at the Waterford East Apartments on Island Bay Drive in Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FOX 35 Orlando.
FHP said in a preliminary report that the bus was stationary when the boy got off the bus, but as the driver tried to drive away, the boy ran back toward the bus and crawled under the moving bus. Stated.
Police said the bus driver did not realize the boy had returned near the bus and ran him over.

The boy's aunt told FOX 35 that the boy ran under the bus to get a soccer ball.
“It's really devastating for the families here and for the investigators who have to investigate these types of scenes,” said FHP spokeswoman Lt. Tara Crescenzi.
Crescenzi said the boy was the only student on the bus.

Orange County Public Schools said the boy attended Lawton Chiles Elementary School.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of one of our valued students who was involved in a bus accident late this afternoon. Our hearts go out to the student's family and school staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez. Officers reviewed surveillance video from the school bus and the apartment complex and interviewed the bus driver, 54, with more than 10 years of experience, and at least one witness. The bus was towed away for mechanical inspection.
“What happened here tonight will be extremely tragic for a long time and probably for the rest of their lives,” Crescenzi said.
