DeSantis Discusses Potential Charges Against Maduro
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shared with Fox News’ Jesse Waters on Tuesday that the state’s Attorney General’s Office is “very seriously considering” bringing charges against the ousted Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro.
“I also want to mention that he’s already been indicted in the Southern District of New York. We, as a state, have the authority to pursue related charges in state court, and that’s something we’re actively looking into,” DeSantis explained.
The governor noted, “Our attorney general is spearheading this initiative, and charges may be filed in areas like Miami and Doral. We certainly have the right to do this,” he added.
DeSantis recounted the celebrations he witnessed in Miami and Doral following the call to oust Maduro, stating that “this has been a long time coming.”
“Both Hugo Chávez and Maduro ruined Venezuela. It had massive oil and gold reserves, yet that Marxist regime just devastated the country. Now, the people are, well, struggling to get by,” he said.
“Many have fled Venezuela due to the situation. So overall, there’s a positive sentiment towards this action,” he emphasized.
Currently, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are facing multiple charges related to narco-terrorism at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center for their roles in a cocaine trafficking operation connected to the Venezuelan military.
DeSantis remarked, “He [Maduro] was clearly involved in bringing drugs into Florida.” He made this statement during a press conference in Clearwater, Florida.
“What he’s likely to do next is release inmates and send them across the border into America, potentially affecting Florida,” he asserted.
On social media, DeSantis hinted, “Stay tuned…” another layer of complexity to the situation.
The recently revealed indictment also names Maduro’s son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, alongside other members of the socialist regime, as co-conspirators benefiting from the drug-trafficking operation.
According to the indictment, around 2017, Maduro Guerra was involved in transporting “hundreds of kilograms” of cocaine from Venezuela to Miami, even coordinating shipments to New York due to issues selling in Miami.
