Florida County School Board Chair Reacts to Hulk Hogan's Death

Controversial Remarks from Alachua County Education Chair

Sarah Rockwell, the chair of the education committee in Alachua County, Florida, has faced backlash after making comments about the recent death of wrestler Hulk Hogan. She expressed on Facebook that it was “good” news, referencing Hogan’s past support for former President Trump.

In an online post made last Thursday following Hogan’s death from cardiac arrest, Rockwell appeared to react nonchalantly. “Oh, did Hulk die? I didn’t know,” she wrote. She then went on to say that Hogan was “never a good person,” accusing him of supporting “Union Bust Pro Wrestling” alongside Vince McMahon, a claim that echoes accusations from former wrestler Jesse Ventura.

After her remarks generated considerable attention, Rockwell deleted the comments and issued an apology via her official school board Facebook account. “A few days ago, I made a cruel and light comment on a friend’s post about Hulk Hogan’s death,” she said. “I deeply regret making that comment and deleting it. I want to be very clear that I don’t want to harm anyone, regardless of any political views I may have.”

She extended her apologies to her family and colleagues in Alachua County, emphasizing that the welfare of children and public schools is her top priority. “I apologize for the hurt and mistrust caused by my insensitive comments,” she stated, reaffirming her commitment to advocating for the local community.

Throughout much of his career, Hogan largely stayed out of politics. However, he did publicly endorse Trump, especially leading up to the 2024 election. In an event for the Republican National Committee, he remarked, “As a celebrity, I’m trying to get away from politics. But everything that has happened to our country over the past four years…makes me no longer able to remain silent.” Hogan described Trump as a “real American hero,” expressing pride in his support for him as a presidential candidate.
