Florida culprit evading arrest in tree nabbed by K9 who sniffed out his nefarious scent

Someone barked the wrong tree.

A suspect Florida robber on the run from authorities is defeated by a police dog, determined to smell the perpetrator's malicious scent above the ground in a wooden canopy.

A highly decorated dog, the K9 Scouts found that Gregory Yates Jr. was pushed out into evergreen trees. According to the Dixie County Sheriff's Office.

“The trail went over NE 640 Street and eventually ran northward, with the scouts resting under the tree, looking up and finding Yates trying to blend in with the branches,” the sheriff's office said Monday.

“Unfortunately for Mr Yates, scouts don't fall into camouflage. It's like enthusiasm, with only four-legged aides able to convene, and the scouts encouraged suspects from perch.”

Yates was taken into custody along with his accomplice, Nicole Hillsland, who remained near the crime scene when police arrived.

The rebellious duo were each booked at the Dixie County Jail in Cross City, the sheriff's office said.

They were both charged with robbery of the structure and possession of robbery tools.

The K9 Scouts were certified patrols and drug detection dogs, and received the distinction between medals and medals of courage. According to the Sheriff's Office.

The scouts were moved to the department last year at the Marion County Sheriff's Office two years later.
