Florida high school mom arrested for allegedly joining daughter’s bus stop fistfight in video

A fight between two high school students at a bus stop in Florida took an unexpected turn when the mother of one of the students joined the fight.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a bus stop in Daytona North, Florida, on August 15 after a friendship rift over the summer spilled over into the new school year.

Police said two teenage girls agreed to jump off the bus at a bus stop and start punching each other.

The fight, captured on video and shared by the sheriff’s office, shows the moment the fight took an unexpected turn when one of the mothers intervened.

The video shows 34-year-old Katherine Stephanopoulos jumping into the commotion and at one point having the child in a headlock.

In the video, one of the students can be heard saying, “Hey, it’s not my mom!”

During the melee, Stephanopoulos’ daughter began a second fight with another child, who tried to break up the fight, police said.

Once the fight was over, the juvenile began arguing with Stephanopoulos, then swung a metal cup and struck the woman in the face.

“Instead of de-escalating the situation, the mother joined in and set a bad example for her child and those at the bus stop,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staley said. “Her actions will definitely not win her any Mother of the Year awards.”

“Parents need to set an example and stay out of the equation,” he said. “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but now the mother is facing serious charges for not being able to control her anger.”
