A 29-year-old housekeeper in Florida robbed and assaulted her 83-year-old employer on Christmas Eve. The elderly woman complained she couldn't afford to pay a holiday bonus to an employee she once trusted, authorities said this week.
Heather Nelson, 29, was furious when her 80-something boss denied her request for a $500 bonus, so she decided to take what she wanted anyway. Press release from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
“Nelson physically twisted the victim's checkbook out of his hands, stole the check from the checkbook, and then sent a Christmas card containing the check that was scheduled to be mailed, presumably in an attempt to ruin someone else's Christmas as well. Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a statement.
The housekeeper, whom Ivey repeatedly referred to as “The Grinch,” allegedly grabbed the woman's checkbook with enough force to break her wrist.
Nelson then wrote a check for $1,400 and used the victim's credit card to pay rent and make other purchases, BCSO said.
“Next… do you kick her dog too?” Ivey asked in the release.
Nelson was arrested Jan. 7 after the check was deposited and credit card transactions were recorded. Law and Crime Reported.
“We were so excited to receive our bonus that we've included additional gifts such as a commemorative booking photo, a slightly used shower slide, and unlimited access to a world-famous 1-star dining venue you'll absolutely enjoy! I prepared it. I won't eat anything,” Ivey quipped in a BCSO statement.
She faces a slew of charges, including aggravated battery, robbery, forgery, fraud, transferring a counterfeit instrument and grand larceny, according to court filings reviewed by the outlet.
She was held on $30,000 bail and released on January 9, the newspaper reported.
