Florida Man’s Wild Rampage in Gym
Imagine the chaos: a naked man hiding in a tanning bed after setting a fire. This unusual event unfolded at Planet Fitness in Venice, Florida, late on July 19th.
Authorities from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office detailed the incident involving 25-year-old Henry Antunes Avarado, who allegedly went on a destructive spree. He reportedly became erratic and exposed himself when asked to leave the gym after hours.
As deputies responded to calls about a disturbance, they found smoke pouring from the ceiling and damage in the men’s locker room. Body camera footage captured the moment, revealing a trail of chaos he left behind, including him lounging on a hydro-massage bed.
Security footage showed Avarado running around inside, even climbing onto the ceiling. “It looks like he’s about to get up into the roof,” one officer mentioned over the radio as they assessed the situation.
Incredibly, a K-9 unit was brought in to search for the intruder. Officers made their way to the closed tanning room where they eventually discovered Avarado concealed inside a tanning bed. He was, as they noted, “a bit sun-stained” when they found him.
After his arrest, he faced charges including indecent exposure, arson, and property damage exceeding $1,000. He was taken into custody, and it seems he was already on law enforcement’s radar, having been arrested previously for trespassing and attempted robbery.
Avarado’s antics resulted in quite the scene, both for the deputies and for the bewildered staff at the gym. It’s certainly a bizarre story to add to the annals of wild gym experiences.
