So, which really kicked things off: the chat about the chickens or the annoyed farmer?
This month in Florida, a man reportedly fired shots at three younger individuals outside a bar, all stemming from a dispute about how many eggs his chickens were producing.
Peter Riera, 44, called the police on November 4, claiming he was being robbed at Harper’s Pub in Port St. Lucie by a couple of men and a woman, according to the Port St. Lucie Police.
The three involved were identified as Brandon Pace, 23, his girlfriend Kayla Damiana, 26, and Tyler McHargue, 23. McHargue mentioned that he had been chatting with Riera, who was called “Farmer Pete.”
As far as witnesses say, their conversation about chicken and egg production shifted quickly when Riera became anxious, thinking they might “jump” him.
Alleging dishonesty on their part, Riera pulled out a firearm. He then discharged four rounds at the group as they fled, thankfully without causing any injuries.
Body camera footage released by CBS12 shows Riera being taken into custody outside the pub, dressed in jeans and barefoot.
The altercation didn’t end there, however. Pace was arrested for obstructing police and kicking two officers while being restrained. Reports indicate that Damiani was also taken into custody for trying to interfere with an officer during Pace’s restraint, despite being told to back off.
After posting $500 bail, she was released. Meanwhile, Pace is no longer in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail, though he still faces charges for resisting arrest with violence and two counts of assault on law enforcement.
McHargue worked cooperatively with the authorities and did not face any charges.
Currently, Riera is being held on a $435,000 bail, facing several counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor charges for discharging a firearm in public.
