A Florida mother tragically lost her life while trying to protect her children after her husband shot her during a heated argument fueled by frustration over an NFL game, authorities have reported.
Jason Kenney, 47, fatally shot his wife, Crystal Loure, 38, just days prior to Christmas. This incident occurred when she asked him to cancel the game featuring the San Francisco 49ers and the Indianapolis Colts, according to reports.
On December 22, Kenney had been drinking throughout the evening while watching the 49ers secure a win against the Colts. His temper flared when Loure expressed she no longer wanted to watch football. This set off a violent altercation, as detailed by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 11 p.m., the situation escalated, prompting Loure to instruct her 12-year-old son to leave their Lakeland home and call 911. As the boy was heading out, he reportedly heard gunfire.
When police arrived, they found Loure’s lifeless body and discovered that her 13-year-old daughter had sustained serious injuries. It was reported that Kenney shot his stepdaughter in the face, but remarkably, the bullet missed critical areas.
The couple’s youngest child, a baby girl, was thankfully found unharmed in her crib.
After the shooting, Kenney fled to a nearby residence that belonged to Loure’s deceased father and called his sister, who resides in upstate New York. During that call, he mentioned having done something “very, very wrong,” expressing a strange certainty that he wouldn’t face imprisonment.
Authorities tracked Kenney to his father’s home, where they heard a gunshot emanating from inside.
Loure, who had two older children from a previous relationship, married Kenney two years ago after meeting him at church. Sources indicate he had a history of violence and struggled with substance abuse. In a note found at their home, Loure expressed her concerns about Kenney’s drinking and drug use, highlighting that it wasn’t the environment she envisioned for their family.
