A Florida man shot and killed his brother during a violent exchange in a car, then turned the gun on himself to avoid spending the rest of his life in prison, according to his sons. Their mother, who witnessed the deaths, told authorities.
Anthony and Robert Coyle got into a heated argument at their Spring Hill home on Nov. 29, when Robert accused his 39-year-old brother of using his car too much. According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
A deadly sibling rivalry that unfolded in front of their mother escalated when Anthony grabbed a gun and shot and killed his brother, the sheriff's office said.
Police say the suspect called 911 to report the killing, then responded to the home, placed the weapon in the bedroom and explained that he planned to wait outside the home until officers arrived.
The sheriff's office said Anthony turned the gun on himself after telling his mother he didn't want to spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his brother.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police ruled the incident a murder-suicide.
