Florida men’s basketball coach breaks silence amid sexual misconduct allegations

Florida Gators men's basketball coach Todd Golden said in a statement Saturday that he would consider filing a defamation lawsuit after it became clear the school was investigating allegations of misconduct against him.

Golden released a statement on social media acknowledging the lawsuit.

“Over the last month, I have actively participated in the ongoing investigation of the school and respected its confidentiality,” the statement said. “I recently engaged Ken Turkel to advise me on my ability to bring defamation claims while this confidential investigation is ongoing.

“My family and I are grateful for the support we have received and have confidence that the university will continue its efforts to properly complete its review.”

Golden's comments came a day after The Independent Florida Alligator reported that the school had opened an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, stalking and cyberstalking of multiple women, including students. I was disappointed.

The paper reported that Golden is facing allegations of unwanted sexual advances on Instagram, including requesting sexual favors and sending photos and videos of his genitals. The paper cited a Title IX complaint filed Sept. 29.

Golden, 39, signed a two-year contract extension in March that included a $1 million raise, bringing his annual salary to $4 million.

He remained with the team during the investigation and led an on-campus practice Saturday before the game that welcomed Grambling State to Gainesville.
