Florida nurse gives up license after declining to treat MAGA patients

Nurse Under Investigation for Anti-ICE Remarks

A nurse from Florida has returned her license after stating she would refuse to provide anesthesia to patients who support former President Trump, often referred to as MAGA patients. Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer announced this development in a post on Thursday.

Usmeyer emphasized that healthcare should remain free of political beliefs, asserting that prioritizing politics over patient care is unacceptable. The nurse, Eric Martindale, had previously expressed in a now-deleted social media post that her “ethical oath” allowed her to refuse services based on political affiliations. She claimed she had the right to make such decisions since she owned her practice.

Martindale later claimed her Facebook account was hacked, which might explain the controversial statements. An official acquainted with the situation confirmed her surrender of the license, citing a breach of an agreement that required her to notify the Florida Board of Nursing before moving out of state.

This incident follows another case involving a nurse, Lexi Lawler, who was dismissed for making threats against a patient in labor. In a video, she expressed a desire to harm another individual during childbirth, which understandably drew significant criticism and led to her termination.

Continuing scrutiny around healthcare professionals and their public statements reminds us of the complexities intertwined with personal beliefs in professional environments.
