In Florida, law enforcement is stepping up measures to tackle rowdy college students during the spring break season. A recent incident involved a young man who was arrested at a raucous party, followed by the police posting about the situation online to capture attention.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office lightheartedly remarked, “Let me address the elephant in the room: Yes, Alabama. We were evicted before 7 p.m. This has to be a new record.” This was a nod to students from the University of Alabama, where the mascot is an elephant. The incident reportedly began around 5 p.m. when the property manager requested police assistance due to disturbances from a group near Miramar Beach. They humorously mentioned that loud music was likely involved.
Police discovered that the 21-year-old was not actually in the home at the time, leading to his release. One comment on social media quipped, “It must have been a wave of emotions to get back to Sweet Home Alabama before sunset.”
This playful post was just one of several highlighting unruly behavior by college students during spring break. Another announcement referenced an arrest where four students from Texas—an 18-year-old and three 19-year-olds—were taken into custody after a noise complaint came in early Monday morning. The students were charged for hosting an open party while one faced additional charges for a fake ID.
In a witty twist, the post referenced the Texas Longhorns mascot: “Meddle with the bull and get his horns.” The Oklahoma State University students also couldn’t escape the attention, with a post humorously starting with, “Wait a minute, Pistol Pete,” connecting to OSU’s mascot.
Interestingly, the same rental property had witnessed a similar scene just days earlier, with students from Louisiana State University getting evicted. The sheriff’s office noted the strange resemblance between the recent evictions, displaying a photo of OSU students packing their cars, which looked just like one from the LSU incident.
Earlier, police had been alerted by a security guard about an unconscious college student throwing glass bottles. They found the area littered with broken glass and empty containers. A 19-year-old confessed to tossing the bottles from a balcony, leading to his arrest.
The sheriff’s office commented, “We’re giving one to the Tiger team,” referring to LSU’s mascot, with another quip: “Time to go to Joe!”
The department encouraged students to have fun but reminded them to be considerate of their neighbors. In another incident, a 19-year-old from the University of Mississippi was arrested for underage drinking and hosting a wild party. Deputies found the rental home cluttered with cans and bottles, prompting their intervention.
“Whether it’s a loud party or property damage, if you are evicted, there’s no refund,” the sheriff’s office stated. They cheekily mentioned, “So, a friendly reminder: There is no Hotty Toddy in the prison lobby,” referencing Ole Miss traditions.
Amidst criticism that their approach might be too harsh, the agency maintained that responsible behavior is key. They encouraged a respectful attitude toward the community, making it clear that severe consequences await those who disrupt the peace.
The sheriff’s office did not provide further comment on the matter on Wednesday.
