Brevard County Sheriff Highlights Florida’s Approach to Violence
At a recent press conference, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivy emphasized the stark contrast in how Florida handles violence compared to West Coast authorities. He made it clear that Florida responds to threats with strength, making it less favorable for extremists.
Ivy, alongside Florida Attorney General James Usmierer, remarked on the influx of Americans moving to Florida, noting that they seek safety for their families and businesses. He stated, “They don’t have to deal with the issues prevailing in cities like Los Angeles, New York, or Chicago.” This emphasis on safety, he argued, is a crucial part of Florida’s law enforcement strategy.
In a blunt message, Ivy declared, “We will notify one of your family where to collect your body,” underscoring the seriousness with which Florida police approach crime and public safety.
Usmierer spoke strongly against violence aimed at U.S. immigration officials, asserting that Florida’s law enforcement is unified in protecting those tasked with enforcing immigration laws. He insisted, “If you target these agents, we are prepared to support them. Doxxing or creating chaos targeting their information is a crime in Florida, and we will hold you accountable.”
Sheriff Ivy also pointed out that while peaceful protests are a fundamental part of democracy and are protected, violence is not tolerated. “If you choose to escalate things violently, well, you just don’t want to do that in Brevard County,” he cautioned.
He was particularly critical of law enforcement attacks, referring to a recent example where officials in California faced backlash. “You can protest all you want, but do it peacefully. Do not cross the line into illegality,” Ivy stated.
Looking ahead, Ivy mentioned that there are some upcoming protests planned in Brevard County, notably organized by various groups in response to perceived governmental overreach. The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, reiterated that his administration takes a very different stance on illegal immigration compared to California’s approach, which he defined as “a Sanctuary Province.”
“California invites illegals, provides them healthcare, and offers in-state tuition. Clearly, they’re not working with federal authorities like ICE,” DeSantis explained. “We must back law and order here in Florida.”
