The media outlet reported that the change came after Gov. Ron DeSantis (Republican) won the gubernatorial election in 2022. The report continued:
In Florida, there are currently 5.3 million registered Republicans and 4.3 million registered Democrats, an official difference of about 995,000.
It’s a stark shift from the Republican Party: In 2017, before DeSantis was elected, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 4.8 million to 4.5 million.
of Mail The report further noted that the state has started to shift to Republican leanings since former President Donald Trump settled there in 2021. It also noted that people are fleeing Democratic-leaning states to move to the Sunshine State.
Breitbart News reported that data from March showed that at the time, Florida Republicans enjoyed an overwhelming voter registration advantage over Democrats.
As of early March, Florida Republicans outnumbered Democrats in registered voters by 854,318, according to Florida’s Voice, which looked at county-level voter registration data. This is significant because it shows that Florida Republicans have not lost momentum since overtaking Democrats in November 2021.
Historically, Florida has been a battleground state, with Democrats winning in 2008 and 2012. But support shifted to Trump in 2016 and 2020, the outlet explained.
The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) said in March that the state was “solidly red,” Breitbart News reported, providing further details behind the vote.
“Florida has voted Democrat for president four times since 1976, with Jimmy Carter winning in 1976, Bill Clinton winning in 1996, and Barack Obama winning in 2008 and 2012. Looking at recent history, all of these elections were fairly close,” the article states.
A majority of Florida voters are “more motivated” to vote in the 2024 presidential election than they were before, according to an Emerson College poll conducted in April, Breitbart News reported.
