Florida test drive leads to wild chase, ends with woman jumping into water

Newly released dashcam footage captures an intense high-speed police chase in Miami-Dade, Florida, that culminates in the driver jumping off a concrete ramp into the water below.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, 27-year-old Melina Logan went to a Honda dealership in south Miami on May 9 to test drive a 2024 Honda Civic.

Authorities allege Logan took the car for a test drive with an employee at the car dealership, then waited for the salesperson to get out of the car and drove off with the car.

The dealership immediately notified local police and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

An FHP trooper eventually found Logan on the interstate and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to the affidavit.

Obtained footage from police car camera FOX 35 Orlandowhich captured Logan driving recklessly and changing lanes aggressively.

Logan allegedly reached speeds of 90 mph while making “bold lane changes in heavy traffic,” according to the affidavit. She also used a paved shoulder to try to bypass traffic.

Police Pursuit

The tense chase ended when Logan ran into traffic and crashed into several cars before crashing into a concrete ramp.

Footage shows Logan emerge from his battered Civic, step onto a concrete ramp and then jump into a local canal.

Other law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene and threw a safety rope to help Logan land, but officers said Logan refused to grab the rope.

Officers eventually jumped into the water and Logan was taken into custody after a “brief struggle.” She was taken to a local medical center and admitted to the Miami-Dade Jail.

Logan faces several charges, including grand theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding, resisting an officer without violence and leaving the scene of an accident with injury, according to the affidavit.
