Florida Woman Charged in Attack on 72-Year-Old Man

A woman in Florida has been charged after allegedly attacking a 72-year-old man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat earlier this week.

Laura Garrett, aged 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Largo Police Department for resisting arrest and assaulting a person over 65, along with charges related to police officers, according to records from Pinellas County Jail.

An arrest affidavit indicates that Garrett and the victim engaged in a discussion about President Donald Trump and his support. These discussions escalated into conflict.

During the altercation, Garrett reportedly struck the man with a can she was holding, hitting him on the head and shoulder, as per the arrest report.

Despite the claims, Garrett denied hitting him with the can.

Following the incident, she allegedly jumped a fence and attempted to flee.

Authorities later apprehended her, but she reportedly resisted arrest and engaged in a physical struggle with the officers. According to the report, she wrapped her legs around an officer, causing him to fall as they tried to lead her away from the park.

One of the officer’s knees was injured during this encounter, leading to further charges against Garrett.

Throughout the arrest, police stated she continued to kick and pull away from them.

Garrett was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday night but was released the following evening, according to jail records.
