Florida woman ignites man in fire, inflicting burns on over 80% of his body after argument, according to police.

A Florida woman allegedly set a man on fire during a dispute on Saturday, leading to severe injuries, as reported by the police. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Tanisha Shelton, reportedly had an argument with 33-year-old Nathaniel Devon Mathis hours prior to the incident.

According to police accounts, the argument ended with Shelton ominously stating she would return with someone to harm Mathis. Later that day, she came back with a bucket containing a bag of accelerant.

Witnesses informed law enforcement that Shelton asked to borrow a lighter before she poured the accelerant on Mathis and ignited it. The emergency services arrived around 6 p.m. at the scene, just north of the intersection at Northwest 63rd Street and Northwest 25th Avenue, discovering Mathis unconscious and severely burned.

At Jackson Memorial Hospital, doctors determined that Mathis suffered from second- and third-degree burns covering 80% of his body and is in critical condition, with little hope for survival.

One witness managed to spray Shelton with pepper spray as she attempted to flee, aiding in her identification. Other witness accounts helped authorities track her down and arrest her.

Currently, Shelton is held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, facing charges for attempted murder and arson, although she has not yet been represented by an attorney.
