The Florida Sheriff’s Department is defending the actions of its deputies after a woman stole a marked SUV and led them on a high-speed chase. and killed three people, Everyone, including myself, was involved in a traffic accident.
“People have to be held accountable. My deputy did nothing wrong,” Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said during a media briefing Friday.
Woods was referring to an incident Thursday in which 33-year-old Kendra Boone climbed through the window of a deputy’s SUV and sped off at speeds of up to 160 mph.
About 20 minutes later, Boone lost control of the SUV and collided head-on with a pickup truck. The traffic accident killed an elderly couple riding in the vehicle. Boone also passed away. Another passenger in the truck was also injured and hospitalized in critical condition.
Reporters asked Woods whether the deputy acted in accordance with training and policy. He angrily denied that his deputy had done anything wrong.
Mr Woods said the woman had a long criminal history and was not suitable for life on the streets.
“If this person had been in prison, he would not have caused the deaths of two innocent people,” he added.

He released footage from the deputy’s body camera to show how quickly Boone was able to get into his car and drive away. He maintained that Boone was solely responsible for the tragic deaths resulting from the incident, not the vice president.
