A 44-year-old Florida woman applied for hurricane relief using her status as a mother, allegedly telling city officials that Botox made her look younger.
Veronica Torres was charged with filing a false welfare claim, a third-degree felony, after applying for and receiving nearly $8,000, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Police say the 44-year-old woman attempted to defraud public officials by applying for disaster relief using her mother's name, driver's license and Social Security information.
Police said in her application that she was forced to vacate her home due to damage caused by hurricanes Milton and Helen.
Police say the 44-year-old woman almost had her plan carried out, until an observant city worker noticed an age discrepancy.
Officials say Torres came to the attention of a city employee on Thursday, Nov. 14, when he came to pick up a check for $7,967.
Police said the 44-year-old woman unsuccessfully tried to convince employees that she had undergone a “Botox treatment” that had transformative results.
Mr. Torres was asked to appear in court the next day, where he was questioned by Detective Bradenton.
She was arrested after being questioned and released on $2,500 bail, according to jail records.
