Operation Holiday Home Rescues Over 100 Children in Florida

In a significant law enforcement initiative, Florida has successfully rescued more than 100 children who were either missing or in dangerous situations, as reported by authorities.

During a press conference on Monday, Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer shared that a total of 122 children, aged between 23 months and 17 years, were saved in the two-week operation dubbed “Operation Holiday Home.” This operation is being hailed as one of the largest of its kind in U.S. history.

“This is why we do this job. We all know here in Florida, we protect our children—keep them safe, prevent them from being extorted and exposed to danger. That’s what it’s all about,” Usmeyer expressed to the media.

A collaborative effort among various state and local agencies, along with U.S. Marshals, contributed to the success of this operation. Out of the rescued children, 57 were from the Tampa Bay area, 14 from Orlando, 22 from Jacksonville, and 29 from Fort Myers, Usmeyer noted in a press release.

Interestingly, the operation also resulted in rescues in nine other states, but the exact number of children rescued outside Florida hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Officials highlighted that many of these children had encountered abuse, neglect, exploitation, or criminal activity in some form.

During this large-scale law enforcement effort, six individuals were arrested, according to Usmeyer. While their identities were not revealed, some face serious charges, including child sexual assault and custodial interference.

“Many of these children have been harmed in unspeakable ways, and we will prosecute their abusers to the fullest extent of the law,” Usmeyer emphasized in a statement.

Operation Holiday Home employed real-time information and active field operations to track down a significant number of missing children. Moreover, victim advocates and child welfare professionals played a crucial role in ensuring that the children had access to necessary resources upon their rescue.

Bill Berger, U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Florida, remarked, “The U.S. Marshals Service is proud to work with partners across Florida in pursuit of the safety and well-being of children. This work was built on the wants and needs of our community, and we are honored to play a leading role in answering those calls.”
