Hit-and-Run Incident in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Police Department released a disturbing video on Tuesday morning, aiming to identify the driver who struck a 50-year-old man in a crosswalk, leading to his death before fleeing the scene.
They mentioned that “rewards of up to $50,000” are available for anyone providing information that could help identify, arrest, and convict the suspect or resolve the case through civil means.
In the footage, Javier Tamayo, a resident of Los Angeles, is seen crossing the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Western Avenue and 82nd Street when a speeding vehicle collides with him.
This unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, February 15, around 9:30 p.m.
The police shared images of a tan GMC SUV with LED lights on its running boards, which sped off without stopping after hitting Tamayo.
Last spotted, the vehicle was seen heading east on 81st Street from Western Avenue.
The police noted, “The driver failed to stop, identify, and assist as required by law.” They reminded motorists that in the event of a collision, stopping, identifying oneself, and calling for help is crucial.
Emergency responders pronounced Tamayo dead at the scene. In April 2015, Los Angeles established a Hit and Run Bounty Program Trust Fund to offer financial incentives for community tips.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about this incident or the vehicle to contact investigators promptly.
