Former Award-Winning Journalist Admits Guilt in Child Pornography Case

Award-winning former journalist pleads guilty to child pornography possession

Thomas Pham Legros, 48, residing in Washington, DC, has pleaded guilty to a single count of possessing child pornography, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro on Friday.

Legros, a video journalist, was arrested on June 26, 2025, following an FBI search warrant executed at his home, where several electronic devices were seized. During the search, agents discovered what seemed to be fragments of a hard drive hidden under a basement rug, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

A search of Legros’ laptop uncovered a folder containing 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse, showing adults engaging in sexual acts with prepubescent children.

In 2018, he was part of the team behind the coverage that earned the Washington Post a Pulitzer Prize, particularly noted for its reporting on Alabama Republican Judge Roy Moore’s Senate candidacy and the subsequent efforts to undermine that reporting.

At the time, allegations surfaced against Moore regarding inappropriate conduct with four teenage girls, one of whom was a minor, dating back over 30 years. Moore labeled these allegations as “completely false” and dismissed them as politically motivated attacks.

The Washington Post officially backed Doug Jones, Moore’s Democratic adversary, describing Moore as “unfit to serve in Congress.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, all forms of child pornography are categorized as child sexual abuse imagery. They assert that no area—whether in the U.S. or globally—is free from individuals seeking to exploit children through such means. The ongoing production and distribution of this material only escalates the demand for even more disturbing images, which perpetuates the cycle of child exploitation.

Legros is set to be sentenced on September 3.
