Former Biden lawyer Steve Ricchetti to testify in Comer cover-up investigation

Steve Richetti Testifies Before House Investigators

On Wednesday, Steve Richetti, a longtime Democratic operative, provided testimony to House investigators. Richetti, who recently served as a counselor to President Joe Biden and played a significant role during most of Biden’s term, is set to engage in a closed-door, transcribed interview that may extend for several hours.

The inquiry led by Rep. James Comer from Kentucky focuses on whether senior White House aides have concealed indications of the president’s mental decline.

Richetti began his career with Biden as a counselor during the Obama administration in 2012 and was later promoted to Chief of Staff in 2013. With a background as both a lobbyist and a Democratic insider, Richetti also chaired Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.

However, investigators are particularly interested in his potential role in managing the White House and possibly masking the signs of Biden’s mental challenges. Reports suggest he was involved in strategies aimed at minimizing the public perception of the president’s age-related difficulties.

Richetti’s involvement raises questions about the extent of these strategies and their implications. If it is found that White House staff have implemented long-term tactics to obscure the president’s condition, Congress might need to contemplate legislative responses.

Axios reporter Alex Thompson previously mentioned that Richetti is part of a select group referred to as Biden’s “politicians.” He has been instrumental in working with Biden’s legislative agenda, collaborating significantly with former House Chairman Kevin McCarthy to avert a severe fiscal crisis in early 2023.

His appearance follows that of Ronald Crane, a former White House Chief, who also provided testimony to investigators last week.

Interestingly, Crane stated that he was never concerned about Biden’s mental state previously.

Like Crane, Richetti is participating voluntarily, while three other Biden administration officials have appeared under subpoena. Former White House doctor Kevin O’Connor and former advisers Annie Tomasini and Anthony Bernal invoked the Fifth Amendment during their testimonies.

Overall, the interviews conducted so far have exceeded five hours, with both Democrats and Republicans engaging in alternating rounds of questioning.
