Even democratic figures and former family aides say former President Biden needs to move away from politics. A new report from “The Hill.”
Amie Parnes, a senior political correspondent at the outlet, spoke with Michael Larosa, former communications director at Jill Biden. He said that Biden’s staff should keep him out of the spotlight as the party is not interested in meeting him.
“If there were advisors who were in charge of the pulsation of Democrats and national politics, they would have understood the intense level of anger and indifference towards them, which would remain in our party and not disappear anytime soon,” the former Biden staffer said.
Perns spoke with LaRosa following Biden’s speech at the Disability Advocacy Conference in Chicago earlier this week.
The speech the former president gave to the Social Security Bureau’s status was Biden’s first major speech since leaving the White House in January.
During his speech, Biden tore the Trump administration apart, saying, “In less than 100 days, this new administration caused so much damage and so much destruction. It’s a bit of a breathtaking experience.”
According to LaRosa, Biden’s return is not a welcome moment within the party, but his handlers should recognize it.
“I love both Bidens with all my heart, but the loyalty of our staff means we have a responsibility to provide honest situational awareness, especially when it comes to their public image, no matter how harmful they are,” he said.
The former Jill Biden staffer went on to say the party feels that the Trump administration and the conservatives are the only ones benefiting from Biden’s return, and that they have been able to use the unpopular former president’s appearance as a distraction.
It was a lovely gift to the White House, President Trump and the conservative media, when they were defending in a way that we had never seen since Trump was elected, when they were defending, and under the intense scrutiny we had never seen before, LaRosa told Perns.
A few weeks before his departure, CNN Polling revealed only 36% of Americans who approved Biden’s job as president, with 64% disapproving.

CNN poll also showed that 61% of respondents view Biden’s presidency as an overall failure.
Perns co-written “Battle: Inside the Wild Battle for the White House.” This is a recently published book that delves into a 2024 Democratic campaign featuring major scoops from people close to Biden, where former Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama robbed them of how these figures retreated from the race and retracted his sub-exchange.
In one excerpt from the book, NBC reporter Parnes and co-author Jonathan Allen wrote about how Biden thwarted the campaign by controlling her policy points.
“Whether she won or lost the election, he thought that he would only hurt him by publicly distanced him, especially in the debate monitored by millions of Americans. Biden was not interested in giving her a room, as long as she wanted to build her own path,” they wrote.
It is widely speculated that Harris has not deviated sufficiently from Biden’s policy will undermine her own chances.
In a comment to Perns, LaRosa lamented this sad end to Biden’s political career, again saying that both Biden and their handlers should recognize the moment and act accordingly.
“It’s a heartbreaking and tragic conclusion to their time in public life, but it’s also true, and they should index political reality into their decisions.”
