Former Cleveland Browns quarterback P.J. Walker announces his retirement from football.

P.J. Walker has officially decided to retire from professional football after playing for nine seasons. This announcement comes just before he was set to join the Calgary Stampeders for the upcoming 2026 Canadian Football League season.

The Stampeders confirmed Walker’s retirement with a statement, acknowledging his decision to step away from the sport. Previously, Walker had limited opportunities with the Stampeders, mainly serving as a backup and starting just one game in the 2025 season, during which he recorded 395 passing yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Before turning pro, Walker had a notable college career at Temple University, where he broke multiple passing records and led the team to several bowl games. Despite going undrafted in 2017, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent, though didn’t see any regular-season play in his three years there. His real NFL debut came in 2020 when he played four games for the Carolina Panthers.

During his last season with the Panthers in 2022, he appeared in six games and, interestingly, had a memorable moment featuring a spectacular throw—a 67-yard touchdown pass that was unfortunately nullified due to a penalty. Still, that throw went down in stats as the longest completed pass since 2016.

Walker also played for the Cleveland Browns, starting two games in 2023, and had a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks during the preseason. Many might remember Walker’s best year with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL, where he truly shined. As he steps away, one has to wonder about what comes next for him.
