Former Commerce secretary questions whether Biden's 'well enough' to remain president

Wilbur Ross, a former commerce secretary under Trump, expressed concern Sunday about whether President Biden will be able to complete his term in office.

“If he’s not healthy enough to run for president, there’s no way he’s going to be healthy enough to stay in office,” Ross said during an interview Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable” with host John Catsmathidis.

The question was asked after Biden announced late last month that he was stepping down from the presidential race against former President Trump and then endorsed Vice President Harris as his successor. Biden’s decision came after weeks of pressure from Democratic colleagues to withdraw from the race after his struggles in the debates raised concerns about his age, mental health and whether he would be able to retake the White House in the fall.

In the weeks since, Harris has garnered major endorsements, officially become a front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination and raised significant amounts of money.

When asked by Catsimatidis who he thought had control over the Oval Office if not Biden, Ross replied: “Obviously the staff.”

“You’ll remember watching the press conference,” he continued, “President Biden at times said, ‘Oh, my staff won’t let me talk about it,’ or ‘My staff doesn’t like me saying this or that.'”

“So it’s clear that staff were independently managing many activities even before Trump announced he wasn’t running,” the former Trump administration official added.

The White House and Biden have not responded to questions about the president’s health. The administration released a letter last month in which the president’s physician sought to clarify why a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease had made multiple visits to the White House.

“This will be the doctor’s first experience seeing patients at the White House. [Kevin] “Dr. Cannard has been doing so for 12 years,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in the letter about the neurologist.

“Dr. Cannard was selected for this role not only because he specializes in movement disorders, but because he is a highly trained and well-respected neurologist at Walter Reed and throughout the Military Healthcare System, with an incredible breadth of expertise and the flexibility to work with a wide variety of patients and problems,” he added.
