Former “Dancing with the Stars” professional Cheryl Burke learned some important lessons during her marriage to Matthew Lawrence.
During an appearance on the Amy & TJ Podcast with Amy Robach and TJ Holmes, Burke explained that he is working on healing from a past relationship.
“I learned that you can’t buy love,” she said of Lawrence.
“Of course, I tried not to do that. I didn’t buy my ex-husband, but he would certainly say that I was the breadwinner,” she said. “I supported us, and I don’t think it’s black and white.”

Although it wasn’t a conscious decision, Burke said, “I just wanted to be in control, and I thought I was in control…It made me feel better, but it didn’t necessarily make my relationship better. There wasn’t,” he admitted.
The 39-year-old also said she doesn’t know how to deal with the issue in a future relationship.
“I say I want someone to take care of me, but I don’t know if I really want to,” she says.

That same year, Burke left Dancing with the Stars after 16 years on the show, winning two Mirror Ball trophies and appearing in the finals six times.
In October, Burke told Fox News Digital that leaving the show was “the worst breakup I’ve ever had to go through.”
When asked about going through “two divorces” in 2022 on the “Amy & TJ Podcast,” she reiterated that sentiment, saying that leaving “DWTS” was “definitely more important than ending her marriage.” “It’s difficult,” he said.
Burke revealed that the divorce wasn’t easy either, but leaving the show was more difficult because “that was my identity.”

She added that the show gave her a “voice”.
“At that time, I never thought I would be able to be an independent woman,” she said. “The social world is very much a partnership, and it’s still always the man who is in charge. It may sound very old-fashioned, but that’s the beauty of the social world: the man leads, the woman Following that, you create something very beautiful” fine art.
“I’m not saying it happens to everyone, but that’s exactly what happened to me. So for me, it was a great way to get myself back and stand on my own two feet. I think it’s because of Dancing with the Stars.’ And they think it’s because I’ve seen it all… It’s hard. ”
Burke currently hosts a retrospective podcast called “Sex, Lies & Spray Tans.”
As for her romantic life, the San Francisco-born star isn’t interested in dating right now, but she does have some idea of what she’s looking for.
“We’re looking for people who want to evolve, who want to work consistently, who want to work on themselves, and who can take responsibility when needed,” she said. “Because you can blame yourself all day long, but at the end of the day, it’s going to haunt you for the rest of your awful life. You better start loving yourself.”

Burke also said she wanted someone who was “supportive” and “valuable” and not overconfident.
“I believe that confidence is just an ego thing and probably comes from a small ego base,” she said. “Everyone has one, right? But I think that foundation is really important for him to be really okay with who he is. And communication.”
Burke added that his future partner would have to “smell and look good,” joking that “that might decide to sign me.”

Burke did not say when the date took place, but it was set up by a mutual friend of Burke and her date.
