Former prosecutor says Trump prosecutor Fani Willis’ White House meeting ‘needs a very deep investigation’

The New York Times interviewed several black women about the accusations against Willis, reporting that they were “deeply conflicted about Willis’ circumstances and her treatment in the public eye.”

The report, headlined “Why the case against Fani Willis feels so close to home for black women,” said most of those interviewed did not think Willis should be excluded from the case.

“Some, recalling their own experiences in the workplace, suggested other concerns. Black women feel held to different standards, and Ms. Willis is concerned about her identity and the enormous political stakes in this case.” However, her personal conduct will be in the spotlight,” the report said.

Tangara L. Hollis Palmer, a black Mississippi lawyer, told the magazine that she was initially hesitant to believe the claims. But after Willis confirmed their relationship, Hollis Palmer said she was a bit disappointed in him and said he should have used “a little more caution and a little better judgement.”

“When you’re in a position like this, you have to be very careful not to give ammunition to the people coming after us,” Hollis-Palmer added.

A Georgia judge confirmed Monday that Willis will hold an evidentiary hearing on Thursday on charges that he engaged in an “unwarranted” extramarital affair.

Willis was accused of having an “improper” relationship with Wade, whom he hired to help prosecute Trump in a massive extortion case related to the 2020 election. The allegations were first brought by Trump’s co-defendant, Michael Roman, who argues that Willis’s alleged conduct should disqualify her and her team from her case.

Roman said in a legal filing last month that in November 2021, shortly after he was appointed special prosecutor, Wade billed Fulton County for 24-hour work days and Willis received taxpayers’ money. He claimed to have benefited financially from his girlfriend’s inflated salary. We go on a luxurious vacation together with his money.

Wade, who has no experience with RICO or felony prosecution, has billed taxpayers $654,000 since January 2022, according to court documents.

Willis acknowledged the relationship but denied any conflict of interest, and asked the court to cancel an evidentiary hearing scheduled for later this week.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee considered the motions during Monday’s hearing, saying, “Looking at the law that has been submitted to date, if evidence of an actual conflict or appearance of a conflict is presented; “I think it’s clear that disqualification could occur.” And the submissions made to date on this issue show inconsistencies in the evidence that cannot be resolved as a matter of law. ”

Mr. Willis is a Democrat and is seeking re-election next year.
