Former England and Bolton defender Tommy Banks dies aged 94 | Bolton Wanderers

Bolton FA Cup winner and former England defender Tommy Banks has died aged 94.

Banks, who played as a left-back, joined Bolton in 1947 and won the FA Cup with the Trotters in 1958, beating Manchester United 2-0.

Banks was selected by Walter Winterbottom for England’s 1958 World Cup squad in Sweden, and went on to represent the country six more times. At the time of his death, Banks was thought to be the oldest living former England international.

Banks made 255 appearances for Bolton and returned to his hometown of Farnworth after retiring, but was diagnosed with dementia in 2022.

I am saddened to hear that Tommy Banks has passed away at the age of 94.
