Former HS wrestler tackles customer who assaulted Indianapolis Subway worker

A former high school wrestler used an old-fashioned technique to save a subway worker from being attacked by an irate customer.

After Gabriel Pizzullo entered an Indianapolis restaurant during his lunch break on March 22, he tackled his assailant and held him down until police arrived.

It was a normal work day, and I went to my local subway station, which I always go to,” Pizzullo said. told “Fox & Friends First.” Thursday.

“When I walked in, it was a pretty hectic atmosphere. People were screaming and it was a little noisy.”

The attacker struggled to break free from Pizzullo’s grasp, but the former athlete held him to the floor for three minutes until police arrived.

“It wasn’t cool,” Pizzullo said, adding there was a “verbal exchange” with the suspect.

When they showed up, Mr. Pizzullo even had the man he helped arrest handcuffed.

“The police arrived. I helped him put the cuffs on, and they thanked me and said my actions were very brave,” he said on the show.

The former high school wrestler, whose father was also a professional cage fighter, worked as a welder and said he had not considered a career in law enforcement until he stopped the attacks.

Pizzullo hopes he can inspire other young people who witness violence or crime to intervene.

“I didn’t turn down the interview because I want to get this story out to young men. There’s been a lot of talk lately about toxic masculinity, but I want to help people, innocent people, local “I’m trying to spread this story that we should stand up for our neighbors. And, you know, that’s what I got out of it,” he said.

Sanders was charged with battery causing bodily injury, battery causing bodily harm and disorderly brawling/riot, according to police records.
