Daniel Burrell was wanted by law enforcement authorities in Colorado and Nevada after he wrote a $1.5 million check to a Las Vegas casino that bounced. Nantucket Current reported.
The arrest came a day after Burrell's island property was sold at foreclosure auction for $12.52 million.
According to the outlet, Burrell previously had an arrest warrant out in Pitkin County, Colorado, for allegedly failing to repay more than $75 million in bank loans he used to pay for divorce proceeds, buy a yacht and purchase luxury homes.

The arrest is the latest in a string of legal troubles for Burrell, who served on the Domestic Policy Council in the Clinton administration from 2000 to 2001.
Burrell's ties to Kerry include serving as campaign finance aide to the former U.S. senator and secretary of state during the 2004 presidential election. Burrell once described Kerry as a “great leader,” according to the Current.
“Dan was a young man straight out of college who was hired as a campaign finance assistant and eventually finished his 2004 campaign as a local finance staffer in California before going to law school and starting his own business,” a source close to Kelly told Fox News Digital.
Last November, Burrell was sued by First Western Bank for defaulting on $56 million in business and construction loans. Alpine Bank then sued in April 2024, alleging that Burrell was behind on $18 million of the $18.5 million loan, according to the Current. One of Burrell's properties in Aspen, Colorado, which Burrell had secured as collateral, was the subject of an online foreclosure auction. The loan enabled the bank to acquire the property for $24.6 million.

A spokesperson for Kelly released a statement to Fox News Digital on Kelly's behalf saying, “We hope that Dan and his family find peace and healing.”
Burrell is the founder of The Burrell Group, an investment management firm focused on commercial office, multifamily, healthcare facilities and student housing, according to the company's LinkedIn page.

Burrell's casino debt lawsuit has been referred to a Las Vegas court and is expected to be heard Monday or Tuesday, his lawyer, Andrew Fritzes, said. Burrell was unable to immediately post $10,000 bail set by a Nantucket judge and was held overnight at the Nantucket Police Department, according to the Current.
“My understanding is that he was arrested today on a warrant out of the state of Nevada. He owes money to a casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, presumably because of this casino sign,” Fritz told the Current at the time.

Prior to Friday's arrest, The Current reported that Burrell had been embroiled in a variety of legal troubles on Nantucket over the summer, ranging from petty theft charges to a dispute with the property manager of a small business on the island.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Nantucket County Sheriff's Office for comment but has not yet heard back.
