Former Kings announcer Grant Napear discusses his firing

Grant Napear Returns to Broadcasting

Grant Napear, a former broadcaster for the Sacramento Kings, participated in an interview titled “All Lives Matter” on Friday. As Dan Zachske noted, Napear has landed another radio gig at Fox Sports Radio in Sacramento, set to air weekdays from 3 to 6 PM PST beginning September 2.

Napear was previously let go after a tweet he posted in 2020, reflecting on his 26 years calling games for the Kings.

During his appearance on Travis and Sexton’s show, Napear shared his thoughts about being fired. He mentioned that many people in his professional circle reached out to express their support. “A lot of folks were shocked and upset,” he said. “Some of the top names in sports broadcasting contacted me, saying they couldn’t believe what happened. They also expressed concerns about speaking out regarding similar issues.”

However, Napear also pointed out a lack of public support, as many in the industry feared the repercussions of defending him. “It was surprising; they all expressed a desire to speak up for me, but they felt they couldn’t,” he remarked.

Napear’s return to broadcasting, after what has felt like a long wait, seems to be a move toward reclaiming what he loves. It’s a relief, if only partially, that some of the wrongs have started to be addressed.
