Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has expressed his frustration in a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump. He accuses Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau of perpetrating what he describes as a politically motivated act reminiscent of Hitler by canceling his tourist visa. This action, he believes, is part of a broader targeting of his father and the ruling party, Morena.
López Beltrán’s correspondence adds to the growing list of over 50 Mexican politicians, mostly linked to the MORENA party, who have seen their visas revoked by the U.S. government. Although the government hasn’t publicly detailed who has lost their visas, some involved in the revocation have known affiliations with drug cartels and corruption.
Just days before López-Beltrán’s letter, the U.S. State Department had announced visa cancellations for numerous individuals connected to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which has been implicated in extensive fuel smuggling operations, as documented in court filings.
According to reports, López-Beltrán has connections to a group of officials linked to drug trafficking networks involved in illegal fuel smuggling, referred to as Huacol Finance. He hasn’t faced any charges in Mexico, and the existence of any potential sealed indictments against him in the U.S. remains uncertain.
In his letter, López-Beltrán implores President Trump to ascertain whether he was aware of the visa revocation, stating he was caught off guard by the decision. He also shifted to a political narrative, suggesting that issues like poverty and racism indicate that the United States is on the decline, urging Trump to replace Rubio and Landau with more effective politicians who could steer the nation back on course.
