Rafael Furcal Facing Felony Charges in Florida
Former MLB infielder Rafael Furcal, who played for teams like the Dodgers and Braves, is now dealing with felony charges after allegedly throwing a “fatal missile” at a vehicle.
This week, the 47-year-old turned himself in to authorities in Broward County, Florida. The investigation follows an incident from Monday that has led to battery charges involving deadly weapons.
While official details are still under wraps, Furcal reportedly explained to Z101’s Tenchy Rodriguez that he was attacked with a knife before a truck driver hit him with a rock.
The term “fatal missile” is defined under Florida law, which classifies stones or other hard materials that can cause serious injury or death as such.
Furcal has been released on bond. His past legal troubles include two DUI incidents in Georgia from 2000 and 2004.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Furcal made his MLB debut in 2000 at just 22 years old. Over a 14-year career, he played for the Braves, Dodgers, and Cardinals, hitting 113 home runs and driving in 587 runs.
