Former NBA player requests pardon from Trump

Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair is preparing to head to prison after violating the terms of his release. He was caught up in a scandal involving healthcare fraud and received a suspended sentence for his part in the scheme.

Telfair had previously failed to meet the conditions of his supervised release, missing court-ordered community service duties and not reporting to his probation officer. Now, he’s facing six months behind bars.

This week, he voiced his frustrations, claiming his situation was “definitely some bulls***.” He reached out to former President Donald Trump, suggesting that he deserves forgiveness and that Trump should look into his story to understand the unfairness he feels regarding the situation. Telfair asserted it stemmed from some document issues.

If Trump doesn’t intervene, Telfair mentioned he’ll focus on self-improvement while serving his time. He was one of 18 ex-NBA players who reportedly swindled approximately $2.5 million from the league’s health benefits plan through fabricated medical costs.

In another related case, NBA champion Glenn “Big Baby” Davis received a 40-month sentence in May 2024. Telfair, who accepted a plea deal, is facing recommendations of 15 to 21 months in prison along with a three-year supervised release plan.

Once a prominent high school talent in New York, Telfair was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2004 and played for eight different teams during his decade-long career.
