Former TV Anchor Charged with Murder of Her 80-Year-Old Mother
A former morning television news anchor has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother, officials have reported.
Angeline “Angie” Mock, who previously worked at FOX 2 News in St. Louis, is accused of fatally stabbing her mother, Anita Avars, on Halloween. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the charges.
Mock was taken into custody in Wichita, Kansas, on October 31, after police discovered that Avars had been killed inside their shared residence.
According to reports, police arrived at the scene around 7:50 a.m. and found Mock outside with a cut on her hand. Avars was discovered with “multiple stab wounds,” according to the authorities.
Following treatment for her injuries at a local hospital, Mock was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. Authorities indicated that her preliminary hearing is set for November 14 at 1:30 p.m.
Mock had a history in broadcasting, serving as a morning news anchor at FOX 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, and also worked at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City. At the time of her arrest, she was employed in sales at a data management software company, based on her LinkedIn profile.
Local residents expressed shock and concern after witnessing the aftermath of the incident, with one neighbor recounting a bloodied Mock approaching her car for help. “There was a woman who came up to our car with blood on her hands and all over her body and asked us to call 911,” said neighbor Alyssa Castro. According to Castro, Mock had taken her boyfriend’s cellphone and, after going inside the house, called for help, saying she had stabbed her mother. “The mother tried to save herself,” a dispatcher reportedly stated.
The reasons behind Mock’s alleged actions remain unclear, and information regarding her first court appearance is still pending.
