Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazer filed for divorce from his wife Michelle on Wednesday, nearly two months after she publicly accused him of cheating.
Details about why Shazier triggered the divorce are still unclear, as the court has ordered the case sealed. According to TMZ.
In November, Michelle Shazier exposed text messages the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker allegedly sent to another woman named Marie, calling Shazier a “liar and a cheater.”
“A man who loves his family…this is what he does to his family…his wife…it was for him from day one,” she wrote in the caption of the now-deleted post.
“The best affair ever! I can't sit here and hide anymore. I give it to you. I deserve better. 🤍 This is Ryan…he's a liar and a cheater!”
One message showed someone Michelle Shazier claiming to be her husband sending another woman a book containing a guide on how to perform sexual acts, TMZ reported at the time.
Shazier and Michelle Shazier dated for seven years and got married in 2019, but it appears they have broken up.
“Michelle and I live separately and remain separated.” Ryan Shazer told TMZ Shortly after gossip sites revealed details of his alleged affair. “We ask for privacy and prayers as we consider the future of our family.”
It is unknown when they broke up.
The couple have a 4-year-old son, Ryan, and Ryan Shazer has a 9-year-old son, RJ, from a previous relationship.
The Steelers selected Ryan Shazer with the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Ryan and Pittsburgh real estate agent Michelle Shazier married in 2019, nearly two years after the former NFL star suffered a horrific spinal cord injury on the field that left him temporarily paralyzed.
On December 4, 2017, during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Ryan Shazer ducked his head to tackle wide receiver Josh Malone in the first quarter.
After the impact, he fell to the ground, clutching the small of his back, and appeared completely motionless from the waist down.
He was immediately carried off the field by team medical staff and underwent spinal stabilization surgery on December 6 of the same year.
He announced his retirement from the NFL on September 9, 2020.
