Former NFL player frustrated with New Jersey town for disregarding Trump's directive to recognize Charlie Kirk

Nick Mangold, the former center for the New York Jets, shared his frustration with the town of Madison, New Jersey, over the weekend. He was unhappy that the town did not lower the American flag to half-staff in honor of Charlie Kirk.

Madison, among other municipalities in New Jersey, did not comply with President Trump’s order to fly flags at half-mast until Sunday. This directive was issued to remember conservative figures who were tragically killed during an event at Utah Valley University.

As Mangold drove past the town’s government building, he noticed that the flag remained at full staff. Expressing his discontent, he addressed his post to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and two candidates competing to succeed him, Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli.

There was also pushback against officials in Bergen County for their decision to maintain the flag at full staff. In response to concerns raised, the county clarified on Facebook that their policy aligns with New Jersey’s flag status, which for that day was marked as “Full Staff.”

Charlie Kirk was shot while engaging with a university student in Orem, Utah. He is survived by his wife and two children. Tyler Robinson was later apprehended in connection with the shooting after authorities conducted a days-long manhunt.
