Alabama High School Football Team Suffers 100-0 Loss

Murphy High School’s football team, led by former NFL player Sherman Williams, faced a devastating defeat last week, losing 100-0 to Williamson High School. This was particularly tough as Williamson is known to be a strong contender, finishing in second place in the state’s Class 5A.

Williams, who is the head coach at Murphy, has been under fire on social media after the game. Reports indicate that he opted not to use a running clock to shorten the game. In response to the backlash, he took to Facebook to address the situation.

In his post, Williams stated, “When we were halfway through at 73-0, I asked all 39 boys if they wanted to keep going. Every single one of them said yes! That’s what we did. I love my boys,” expressing pride in his team despite the score.

On the other side, Williamson head coach Antonio Coleman confirmed that he requested the referee to keep the clock running when their team reached a 73-0 lead by halftime. Coleman mentioned, “I asked the ref if there were any issues with the eight-minute quarters, and the ref said no. I checked with Sherman, and he preferred not to run the clock.” There seems to have been some miscommunication about the running clock, as Williams mentioned an option was discussed but didn’t clarify if he agreed to it.

Despite the criticisms, Williams insisted he was not seeking advantages during the game, noting, “It’s okay. It’s football. It’s a 48-minute game. I wasn’t looking for benefits.”

In his first year as head coach at Murphy High, Williams has a history with football, having played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1995 to 1999 and contributing to their Super Bowl win in the 1995 season. Over his college and professional career, he played in 60 games, recording 1,162 yards and four touchdowns.
