Former Obama advisor: "Crazy" to believe Cuomo is superior to a Democratic socialist

Pfeiffer Critiques Cuomo’s Mayoral Aspirations

Dan Pfeiffer, a former aide to President Obama, expressed his disbelief regarding New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s perspective in the mayoral race, calling it “crazy” to think he stands above a democratic socialist contender.

During a recent episode of “Pod Save America,” Pfeiffer criticized the support that Cuomo has received from Democratic establishment figures, labeling it as “really unacceptable.”

“This isn’t—you’re not backing another good Democrat,” Pfeiffer noted. “Are you really supporting someone who wanted to resign as governor because the entire Democratic leadership, including the then-president, was involved in allegations of sexual harassment against eleven women, abused his authority, and faced backlash over a nursing home scandal?”

He further remarked that the notion of Cuomo being more afraid of a democratic socialist for the mayoral position, especially given his history of misconduct, seems absurd to him.

Zoran Mamdani, a democratic socialist state legislator, has recently gained traction in the mayoral race, positioning himself against Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

Mamdani has nearly matched Cuomo’s standing in the primary, even surpassing him in the latest round of ranked-choice polling released on Monday.

Despite this, Cuomo remains a formidable candidate in the upcoming election and has recently earned backing from influential figures like Congressman Jim Clyburn.

Pfeiffer added, “It’s shocking that those involved continue to prove they lack understanding and insight. It’s evident that they don’t grasp the implications of the situation.”

He also mentioned that regarding the nursing home controversy, an investigation by Biden’s Department of Justice Inspector General revealed it was a Trump appointee who misused DOJ resources, linking it to campaign efforts in the 2020 election.
