Former White House National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes criticized former President Trump’s foreign policy, calling him a “disruptor” who is unable to resolve problems with other countries.
“Donald Trump is, quite frankly, not respected. He’s not taken seriously around the world. He’s a source of chaos,” Rose said. MSNBC interview Saturday. “He has no ability to work with other countries to solve problems.”
Rhodes, who served under the Obama administration, pointed to President Trump’s “destabilizing trade war” with China, arguing it has played a major role in China’s stubborn inflation.
Trump imposed tariffs on China during his time in the White House that were widely seen as a preemptive strike in a trade war with Beijing, and he has vowed to take an even tougher stance against China if he is re-elected in November.
“I believe that Donald Trump’s abandonment of the agreement directly led to the clash between Israel and Hamas on October 7th. So Donald Trump is not going to solve these problems, he’s making them worse,” Rose said.
“And you’re betting on a quirky, strong man sharing a global stage with other quirky, strong men. [Chinese President] With Xi Jinping [Russian President] With Vladimir Putin [Indian Prime Minister] “Narenda Modi… I don’t think that’s the way to solve the problems here,” Rose continued. “So if Trump brings some chaos and some risk, I think Joe Biden at least offers again some predictability for Americans that works along a familiar set of interests within the United States.”
Trump has come under fire in the past for praising Putin, claiming in an interview last summer that he was “Putin’s favourite”.
