“Joe Biden's decision to run for president again was a catastrophic mistake. It was just that. He and his inner circle refused to believe the polls and said he was unpopular. They refused to believe that and refused to acknowledge until much later that everyone could be “angry about inflation,'' Favreau said on the podcast.

Discussing the election results with the hosts of “Pod Save America,” Favreau explained that Biden has repeatedly touted the historically strong economy as a candidate, saying, “Obviously 70 of the voters, 80% don't believe it,” he added.

“And after the debate, Biden officials told us that the polls were fine and that Biden was still the front-runner. “So they kept Kamala Harris quiet from reporters. They told others, 'This is not the time for an open process.' Mr. Favreau continued.

Throughout the campaign, the president repeatedly denied polls showing him trailing President-elect Donald Trump. After dropping out of the race, which resulted in a heated debate, the president told ABC's George Stephanopoulos that pollsters had told him the race was close.

“Every pollster I've talked to says it's a huge failure. And when I'm behind… there's only one poll where I'm really behind by a lot: the CBS poll and the NBC poll. I mean, it's disrespectful,” Biden said at the time.
