Tragic End for Former New Jersey Officer

A former police officer in New Jersey took his own life at a state park just a few months after he and his wife faced allegations of inappropriate conduct in front of their child, according to officials.

Brian DiBiasi, a 40-year-old ex-officer from Hamilton, was discovered dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday near the Delaware River at Washington Crossing State Park in Hopewell. This information was confirmed by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

DiBiasi had an extensive career, serving the Hamilton Police Department for 21 years. As earlier reported, both he and his wife were arrested on January 29 and charged with serious sexual offenses involving a child.

Details emerged stating that DiBiasi’s charges included allowing a minor to engage in pornography, parental sexual conduct with a child, possessing materials depicting child sexual exploitation, and sharing and storing child pornography. His wife, Elizabeth DiBiasi, aged 43, is also facing allegations of sexual battery against a child.

At the time of their arrest, Elizabeth was a veteran with 18 years at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. After their arrest, the couple was released from jail relatively quickly. Following these serious accusations, DiBiasi was terminated from his job.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office disclosed that law enforcement was alerted by the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children on January 28 regarding potential distribution of illicit content involving children. Reports indicated that the couple was suspected of sharing disturbing media, including images that allegedly showed nude pictures of his wife in front of their children.

In the chat messages reviewed, it was suggested that DiBiasi admitted to having sex with his wife while their children were present. Authorities traced an online user’s activity back to their home and executed a search warrant on January 29.

In a turn of events, DiBiasi confessed to investigators that he owned the controversial messaging account, while Elizabeth denied any knowledge of it. Her attorney expressed shock over the situation, stating that DiBiasi’s actions were certainly serious, but perhaps not as extreme as previously suggested, indicating that solutions might have been possible.

The Attorney General emphasized that crimes against children are among the gravest offenses under the law, particularly alarming when committed by law enforcement personnel. Hamilton’s Mayor also expressed concerns, stating that such acts severely damage community trust in those sworn to protect them.

Currently, there has been no immediate response from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office or the Hamilton Police Department regarding this tragedy.
