Panel Discussion Reflects on Biden’s 2024 Presidential Race

During a panel discussion on Monday, former Justice Department spokesperson Anthony Corey suggested he should have withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, even before the well-known debate took place.

This event coincided with the anniversary of President Biden’s own withdrawal from the 2024 election, as he stepped aside for then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, Hunter Biden recently made headlines not only for sharing over-the-top critiques of Democratic leadership but also for suggesting his father might have been under the influence of Ambien during the debate.

On a podcast last weekend, Hunter remarked, “We know exactly what happened in that discussion. He basically flew the mileage around the world three times. He’s 81 years old and understandably tired.”

The NBC News panel reviewed both Hunter’s interview and the Democratic Party’s attempts to dissect what went awry in the election.

Biden’s Media Efforts and the Democratic Landscape

Corey, who now contributes to NBC, reflected on Biden’s age and the grueling travel schedule, saying, “Yes, he was 81 and traveled back and forth from Europe. That’s not why he lost.” He emphasized that even the best messages and policies may not matter if the messenger isn’t viewed as reliable or capable enough.

“At the end of the day, if you don’t have someone people believe in, someone who seems like they can go the distance, you’re going to lose,” he added, highlighting this aspect as critical in the 2024 presidential race.

Corey also asserted that Biden’s decline in support began soon after the Afghanistan withdrawal. “People started losing confidence in Joe Biden, who I admired while working in his administration, right after that blunder,” he noted, recalling that the incident took place in August 2021, and Biden’s approval ratings did not recover subsequently.

Even though Biden’s team felt a boost at the time, Corey insisted that the fallout from the Afghan situation signaled a moment when Biden should have reconsidered his campaign. He advocated for a thorough reevaluation of the presidential race moving forward.
