Former President Jimmy Carter's long public farewell began Saturday in Georgia, where he died this week at the age of 100.
The flag-draped casket of the 39th president was carried in a motorcade to his small hometown of Plains, passing his boyhood home on the way to Atlanta.
The procession began at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, where former Secret Service agents who protected the late president served as pallbearers.
This began Carter's six-day funeral.
