Former Prince Andrew's arrest in the UK raises demands in the US for accountability in the Epstein investigation

Arrest of Former Prince Andrew Sparks Accountability Calls

A senior lawmaker heading the U.S. House investigation into Jeffrey Epstein has recently been approached regarding the arrest of former British royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) emphasized the importance of accountability, commending the Trump administration for its efforts in making information about Epstein publicly accessible.

“Those involved in Jeffrey Epstein’s horrific crimes must be held accountable,” Comer stated. He also noted that the Department of Justice’s transparency reaffirms that no one, not even members of the British Royal Family, is above the law.

News broke early Thursday morning on the U.S. East Coast regarding former Prince Andrew’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office. This follows reports that British police are investigating allegations that he disclosed confidential information to Epstein.

Andrew, who has long denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein, had been one of the late pedophile’s most notable associates. Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of Epstein, alleged in her memoir that Andrew engaged in a sexual relationship with her when she was a minor. Tragically, Giuffre passed away last year, and Epstein took his own life in 2019 while in jail awaiting trial.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), among the first U.S. lawmakers to advocate for Andrew’s arrest back in October 2025, commented, “If you’re watching a former prince get arrested today, remember: Four Republican members of Congress refused to flinch or fold, pushing the Epstein file into the light.” She warned that “courage has consequences, and so does corruption,” underlining the bipartisan effort in Congress to address the matter.

Mace was part of a small group of House Republicans who, alongside Democrats, voted for a bill mandating the Department of Justice to release all documents linked to the Epstein investigation. The subsequent House vote was nearly unanimous, with only one Republican opposing it.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have renewed their demands for accountability concerning other associates of Epstein. Rep. Suhas Subrahmanyam, D-Virginia, noted Andrew’s repeated appearances in documents exposing knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, while victims specifically named him as being involved.

“I hope today’s arrests lead to answers and show that no matter how wealthy or powerful you are, you will be held accountable, even if you hide,” he remarked. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., also echoed sentiments calling for justice, stating it’s time to bring the perpetrators to account.
